Resident Evil 9 Unveiled at Summer Game Fest 2025

The official announcement is here: Resident Evil 9 has been revealed during Summer Game Fest 2025, giving fans their first proper glimpse at the upcoming title.

Titled Resident Evil Requiem, this single-player survival horror experience launches February 27, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.

During the SGF presentation, host Geoff Keighley described Resident Evil Requiem as representing "a dramatic evolution for the franchise in both tone and gameplay," blending survival horror with "high-octane cinematic action sequences."

The trailer seemingly confirms the ruined state of Raccoon City - destroyed by nuclear strike in Resident Evil 3 - through expansive environment shots that hint at potential open-world design elements. Brief footage also shows the devastated remains of Raccoon City Police Department.

Introducing a potential new protagonist, FBI technical analyst Grace Ashcroft investigates a string of bizarre fatalities before being forced to revisit her traumatic past by returning to her mother's murder site.

A chilling moment shows Grace restrained on a medical gurney while an unidentified voice declares: "I know now that you're the one I've sought... special one. Chosen one." This raises questions: Is Grace indeed playable? Will she be the sole protagonist, or might franchise veterans like Leon Kennedy make appearances?

While Capcom's official site remains deliberately vague, it references "cutting-edge technological innovations" and "deeply immersive gameplay featuring richly developed characters."
