The Samsung S85D is the entry-level gem in Samsung's 2024 OLED lineup, offering top-notch quality at a budget-friendly price. While the higher-end S90D boasts a quantum dot OLED panel (and a $500 higher price tag), the S85D uses a standard W-OLED panel. It matches the image quality of the LG B4 OLED TV, which is $200 more expensive. With its true OLED panel, the S85D delivers an almost instantaneous response time, a near-infinite contrast ratio, and perfect blacks, making it the superior choice for most applications. And for those worried about burn-in, rest assured it's a rare issue with TVs; it's more of a concern with computer monitors that display static images.
Designed with the latest gaming technology in mind, the Samsung S85D comes equipped with HDMI 2.1 ports and a native 120Hz panel, perfect for running 4K at 120Hz on your PS5 or Xbox Series X. It also supports variable refresh rate and auto low latency mode, making it an excellent match for the PlayStation 5 Pro, which can run games in true 4K resolution at 120Hz, rather than upscaled 1440p in "Performance" mode.
At this price point, the S85D is the most affordable option for a brand new, fully warrantied 65" OLED TV from a reputable brand like Samsung. While the 2025 OLED TVs might introduce minor upgrades like faster processors or improved anti-glare films, the core panel technology remains similar to the 2024 models.
