Excitement is building as HBO officially announces the premiere date for *The Last of Us* Season 2. The highly anticipated season will debut on Sunday, April 13 at 9pm ET/PT and will also be available to stream on Max. Spanning seven episodes, the new season promises to deliver an intense continuation of Joel and Ellie’s journey. To mark the occasion, HBO has unveiled striking character posters featuring Joel, Ellie, and the newest addition to the cast, Abby.
Picking up five years after the events of the first season, *The Last of Us* Season 2 adapts the story from the acclaimed sequel game, *The Last of Us Part II*. Viewers will reunite with Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie, who are now living with Joel’s brother Tommy on a rural commune in Montana. This next chapter introduces several new characters played by notable actors including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazighen as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, and Tati Gabrielle as Nora—best known for her role as the protagonist in Naughty Dog’s upcoming title, *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet*.
Character Posters Reveal New Visuals
HBO released a set of compelling character posters that highlight key figures in the upcoming season. These visuals offer fans a glimpse into the evolving dynamics between Joel, Ellie, and the new characters entering their world. Below is a preview of the newly revealed artwork:
The first season of *The Last of Us* was a massive success for HBO, earning widespread critical acclaim and numerous awards. Co-created by Craig Mazin (*Chernobyl*) and Neil Druckmann (Naughty Dog), the series took home multiple Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards and received five major Primetime Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor, Lead Actress, Outstanding Director, and Outstanding Writing.
With such a strong reception, HBO is fully committed to expanding the universe further. Francesca Orsi from HBO hinted that the series will consist of four seasons in total. As a result, Season 2 will not cover the entire narrative of *Part II*, leaving room for deeper storytelling in future installments.
