The highly anticipated Shrek 5 has just revealed its new cast along with an exciting teaser trailer, sparking a wave of reactions, including from an unlikely source: Movie Sonic. Even the speedy hedgehog seems puzzled by Shrek's fresh appearance.
In a humorous video shared on TikTok, the Sonic Movie account playfully offered "advice for green ogres," showcasing Movie Sonic's own transformation from his initially controversial live-action design to a more fan-friendly version unveiled months later.

IGN was the first to showcase the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie back in 2018, and the initial reaction was mixed. Fans were particularly vocal about Sonic's teeth, physique, tiny eyes, and oddly human fingers. In response to the backlash, director Jeff Fowler opted to revamp the iconic character's design, promising a more authentic look that was ultimately much better received.
Although the response to Shrek's new look hasn't been as divisive as Sonic's initial live-action debut, Sonic's playful jab has certainly entertained his followers. One fan commented, "You know it's bad when you see the Sonic Movie account giving Shrek 5 advice," while another exclaimed, "No way they actually posted this" followed by a crying emoji.
The journey of Shrek 5 began with its announcement in 2016, but it wasn't until Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination, confirmed its active development in 2023 that fans saw real progress. Alongside plans for a Donkey spin-off, Universal Pictures has now scheduled Shrek 5 for release on December 23, 2026, after a slight delay, while moving the Despicable 3 spin-off, Minions 3, into its former slot.
