Skyrim Grandma Plays Oblivion Remastered With Chat

Beloved YouTuber Shirley Curry, better known by her charming online alias "The Skyrim Grandma," has embarked on a new journey in the recently released The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, with her live chat community actively guiding her every step of the way.
In her premiere video, aptly titled 'Oblivion Remastered #1: Learning the Ropes,' the celebrated 89-year-old content creator shared the first moments of her adventure with her dedicated 1.3 million subscribers. Freshly escaped from the game's lengthy introductory dungeon sequence, she was finally able to behold the wider world of Cyrodiil.
"Good morning, grandkids. Welcome to Oblivion Remastered," Curry warmly greeted her audience. "I'm finally free from all those unsettling prisons, dungeons, and sewer tunnels—that seemingly endless tutorial section you must endure before truly entering the game's world. This is my very first glimpse of it all."
Curry is navigating the challenges of the remastered classic, frequently turning to her chat for assistance on mechanics like switching to a third-person camera view. Much of her gameplay involves familiarizing herself with the environment, movement controls, and core systems. And yes, the infamous lockpicking minigame presents a significant hurdle—a universal struggle for newcomers and veterans alike.

A follow-up video, 'Oblivion Remastered #2: Still Figuring It Out,' continued her learning journey. "I suppose you're all going to hear quite a bit of grumbling from me," she joked while cautiously exploring a goblin and giant rat-infested cavern.

Throughout her streams, her supportive community floods the chat with invaluable tips and encouragement for her initial hours in the game.
"Wow, Grandma Shirley! A huge welcome to TES4!!!" exclaimed one enthusiastic viewer, receiving a heartfelt 'like' from Curry.
Another fan offered detailed advice: "On keyboard, toggle between first and third-person view by clicking the mouse wheel. On a controller, it's the same as Skyrim—press the right stick. Lockpicking is notoriously tough in Oblivion! I typically use the 'Auto-Attempt' option until my character reaches level 10. If I run out of lockpicks, so be it. Later, you can visit Nocturnal's Shrine and complete her quest to obtain the unbreakable Skeleton Key, which makes lockpicking trivial. There are also 'Open Lock' spells and a Doom Stone (similar to Skyrim's Standing Stones) called The Tower Stone. Activate it at night—it's visible from the Imperial City Waterfront—to gain a daily power that opens any lock once."
A different helpful comment read: "So glad to see you're getting the hang of it, Shirley! Remember, you can use the 'Wait' function to choose a specific time of day, but it won't work if enemies are nearby." Curry personally thanked this viewer for the useful reminder.

Last year, Curry announced her retirement from creating regular gameplay videos after nearly a decade, citing a loss of enjoyment in the process. However, her passion for gaming and her community proved too strong to stay away for long.
Curry’s profound impact on The Elder Scrolls community is already legendary. Her influence is widely recognized by fellow fans and by Bethesda Game Studios itself. A successful fan campaign petitioned for her inclusion in the upcoming The Elder Scrolls VI, to which Bethesda officially responded, confirming that an NPC inspired by "Skyrim Grandma" will indeed appear in the highly anticipated title.
While the release of The Elder Scrolls VI is still likely years away, Shirley Curry now has the vast, remastered realm of Oblivion to explore and conquer in the meantime.
