Sony Releases PS5 and PS4 Updates: Key Features Revealed

Apr 20,2025 Author: Nicholas

Sony has rolled out new updates for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, enhancing user experience and system performance.

The PS5 update, version 25.02-11.00.00, weighs in at 1.3GB and brings several improvements. One key enhancement is to the activities feature, where details are now fully displayed on cards, ensuring that potential spoilers remain hidden. Additionally, this update introduces support for Unicode 16.0 emojis, allowing for more expressive messaging. Changes to parental controls have also been implemented. When setting the restriction level to Late Teens or Older, Communication and User-Generated Content will default to Restrict. Users who previously set this level will see their settings as Customize without changes. Furthermore, the update bolsters the system software's performance and stability, alongside improving messages and usability on various screens.

Here are the detailed patch notes for the PS5 update 25.02-11.00.00:

  • Potential spoilers will still be hidden.
  • Unicode 16.0 emojis are now supported. You can use them in your messages.
  • When you set the parental controls' restriction level to Late Teens or Older, Communication and User-Generated Content will now default to Restrict. If you have previously set the level to Late Teens or Older, your previous settings will not be affected and it will be shown as Customize.

  • We've improved the messages and usability on some screens.

In contrast, the PS4's update, version 12.50, is more modest, focusing solely on enhancing messages and usability on certain screens.

Sony's commitment to updating its consoles extends beyond the current generation, as evidenced by recent updates to the nearly 20-year-old PlayStation 3. This dedication ensures that gamers across different platforms continue to enjoy optimized and stable performance.
