The first story expansion for Star Wars Outlaws, titled "A Pirate’s Fortune," has arrived on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, bringing with it a beloved character from the Star Wars universe: Hondo Ohnaka. This Weequay pirate, known from Darth Maul comics and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, plays a central role in the new DLC, much to the delight of fans and the development team at Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment.
Drew Rechner, the Creative Director, shared his enthusiasm for including Hondo in the expansion. "We always knew because there were so many passionate people on the team that we needed to feature Hondo. And, you know, that scoundrel fantasy of Kay mixing with the pirate fantasy of Hondo, it just kind of makes sense, right?" Rechner explained to IGN. The narrative sees Kay Vess, the protagonist, evolving into a leader, with Hondo serving as a mentor—or perhaps something more complex.
"A Pirate’s Fortune" introduces new elements to Star Wars Outlaws, including an adventure involving the Rokana Raiders crime gang and the Miyuki Trade League, which can provide upgrades for Kay's Trailblazer ship. A new blaster capability called Shock also adds to the gameplay experience.
In addition to the current platforms, Star Wars Outlaws is set to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on September 4. While Rechner remained tight-lipped about specific new features for the Switch 2 version, he hinted at forthcoming announcements. "In terms of a specific feature set, that's something that we will get into later. So we'll have more stuff to talk about later," he teased. Potential enhancements could include utilizing the Switch 2's controllers as a mouse and a new GameChat capability.
For fans of Star Wars Outlaws, "A Pirate’s Fortune" offers a fresh adventure and a deeper look into the world of Star Wars, all while keeping the spirit of the franchise alive with the inclusion of a fan-favorite character like Hondo Ohnaka.
