Netflix Games has enriched its lineup with the much-anticipated release of Steel Paws, a new free-to-play game available exclusively to Netflix subscribers. Developed in collaboration with the legendary Yu Suzuki, known for the iconic Shenmue series, Steel Paws is a platforming brawler that promises thrilling gameplay and engaging mechanics.
Available on both iOS and Android through Netflix's gaming catalogue, Steel Paws invites players to embody a cybernetic explorer on a mission to conquer a mysterious tower. With the help of customizable robotic companions, players can upgrade their allies and harness a variety of special moves to fend off waves of mechanical adversaries. This unique blend of customization and strategic combat aims to provide an immersive experience as you ascend to the tower's summit.
Yu Suzuki's involvement is evident in Steel Paws, with its emphasis on brawling, special moves, and intricate subsystems showcased in the game's trailer. While Suzuki's legacy brings high expectations, there are noticeable areas for improvement, such as the main character's lack of expressiveness and some stiff animations. Despite these minor drawbacks, the game's overall design and gameplay mechanics appear promising.
There is a hopeful anticipation that Steel Paws will prove to be a success for Netflix, potentially paving the way for more robust, full-fledged 3D brawlers on the platform. A triumph for Steel Paws could elevate Netflix Games beyond mere tie-ins to popular shows, establishing it as a serious contender in the mobile gaming market.
