It appears that we may have an early glimpse into the title of the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie thanks to a premature reveal in an NBCUniversal press release. The document, which detailed upcoming content for their Upfront Showcase, initially included Super Mario World among the films slated for release on Peacock, alongside Shrek and Minions. However, the mention of Super Mario World was swiftly removed from the press release.
The quick retraction of the Super Mario World reference has sparked speculation about the validity of the title. Given that the press release also mentioned Shrek and Minions, which are understood to refer to Shrek 5 and Minions 3 respectively, it suggests that Super Mario World might be a placeholder or working title rather than the final name for the Mario movie sequel.
Despite this, Super Mario World stands out as a more specific title compared to a generic Super Mario or Super Mario Bros. This has led to speculation that it could indeed be the chosen title for the next installment in the Mario franchise. The title Super Mario World resonates well with fans, as it harks back to a beloved game in the Mario series.
