Super Mario Strikers, known as Mario Smash Football in Europe, is set to join the Nintendo Switch Online GameCube library on the Nintendo Switch 2 next week. This marks the first addition to the GameCube lineup since the Switch 2 launched earlier this month.
Nintendo Switch Online is a subscription service that enhances your gaming experience with online multiplayer features and access to a vast collection of classic Nintendo titles. Spanning four decades, the library includes games from the NES, SNES, Game Boy, Nintendo 64, and now the new GameCube library. New users can also enjoy a free seven-day trial to test the waters before committing.
The current GameCube lineup features fan favorites such as *The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker*, *F-Zero GX*, and *Soulcalibur 2*. Rumors suggest that more beloved titles like *Super Mario Sunshine*, *Luigi's Mansion*, and *Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness* are expected to join the roster soon.
"Mario and friends clash in this extreme soccer game originally released for the Nintendo GameCube system in 2005," Nintendo teased. "Matches unfold with white-hot speed, intensity, and familiar items like shells and mushrooms to give you an edge against opponents. However, the real game-changer is the Super Strike—a powerful shot that can score two points at once! With intuitive controls and a variety of techniques to master, it’s easy to jump right into the action and hit the pitch with Mario and his crew! Available exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members!"
Back when it launched in 2008—nearly 20 years ago—IGN gave *Super Mario Strikers* a “Good” rating, writing in our review: “Nintendo's foray into sports titles continues with *Super Mario Strikers*, a soccer game unlike anything ever to hit the pitch.”

The Nintendo Switch 2 has gotten off to a strong start, selling over 3.5 million units. However, analysis of the console’s launch week sales suggests a mixed outlook for third-party game performance.
In IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 review, where it received a 7/10, we noted: “The Nintendo Switch 2 is a necessary upgrade if you’ve been stuck with the original for the past eight years. But considering most improvements feel like catch-up efforts and the significant price increase, this sequel system isn’t much more exciting than upgrading your phone after years of delay.”
Alongside introducing fresh gameplay elements, Sonic Team lead Takashi Iizuka joined us at IGN Live to discuss Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and explain why this crossover kart racer stands out from the pack.
