George R.R. Martin recently announced the upcoming illustrated edition of A Feast for Crows, the fourth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series to receive this treatment. Illustrated by Jeffrey R. McDonald, the book is slated for release on November 4, 2025. Pre-orders are available through major online retailers such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Target.

This release marks five years since the last illustrated edition (A Storm of Swords) was published in November 2020. The new edition will also include a foreword by Joe Abercrombie, and a preview of interior illustrations is promised later this spring. The first three illustrated books in the series are currently available for purchase.

The Winds of Winter: Still on the Horizon?

While this illustrated edition is exciting news, fans eagerly awaiting The Winds of Winter may face a prolonged wait. Martin hinted in a December 2024 interview that he might not complete the novel in his lifetime, despite having already written 1,100 pages (as confirmed in November 2023). It seems likely that all five illustrated editions will be released before The Winds of Winter sees publication.
