This month, we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, the epic conclusion to the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy. Launched on May 19, 2005, this film marked the last Star Wars movie directed by George Lucas before he sold Lucasfilm to Disney seven years later.
Anticipation was high for Revenge of the Sith, as fans knew it would showcase Anakin Skywalker's transformation into Darth Vader. However, a major question lingered: what happened to the other Jedi? The film introduced Order 66, a sinister directive from Emperor Palpatine, compelling the Clone Troopers to turn against and exterminate the Jedi. With thousands of Jedi in service, it was inevitable that some would escape this purge, beyond the few we knew would survive into the Original Trilogy.
In the years since the film's release, various Star Wars stories have introduced us to several dozen Jedi who survived Order 66. We’ve compiled a list of the top 10 survivors who have left a significant mark on the Star Wars universe. Some of these survivors lived only briefly after the order, while others endured much longer, with the fates of a few still shrouded in mystery. Nonetheless, they all managed to live and fight another day following Palpatine's chilling command, "Execute Order 66."
For this ranking, we've set clear criteria: the characters must have been under the Jedi Order's jurisdiction before Order 66, whether as a Padawan, Jedi Knight, Jedi Master, or even a young Jedi Initiate. This means we exclude Force-users like Maul or Palpatine, and others like Jod Na Nawood, who were never officially part of the Jedi Order or trained within the Jedi Temple.
We debated the inclusion of Asajj Ventress, who was trained by Jedi Knight Ky Narec on Rattatak for over 20 years. Despite Narec considering her his Padawan, Ventress never visited Coruscant or met the Jedi Council before his death, and her later allegiance to the Dark Side as Dooku’s apprentice complicates her status. Thus, we've designated her as an honorable mention.
