Previous Dynasty Warriors titles allowed players to control numerous characters, each wielding a unique weapon. In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you only play as a single protagonist who gradually unlocks additional weapons. This guide explains how to obtain every weapon.
Finding New Weapons in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Earlier Dynasty Warriors games tied specific weapons to iconic heroes, with each character featuring a unique moveset for their arms. Although you can briefly control other characters in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, the game streamlines combat by having you play as one hero who can freely switch between acquired weapons.
You begin your campaign armed only with a sword, but as you complete missions, you'll expand your arsenal. The key is defeating particular enemy officers to claim their weapons. All nine primary weapons can be secured before Chapter 3 concludes, though availability may change depending on which officers you vanquish. To ensure you collect each weapon as early as possible, below is a detailed breakdown of when and how I acquired every major weapon:
Sword – Your starting weapon. Spear – Finish the Battle of Guangyang in Chapter 1. Purchasing it is mandatory for story progression. Gauntlets – Available during the Battle of Guangzong in Chapter 1. Defeat Zhou Cang. Wheels – Obtainable in the Suppression of You Province (Chapter 2). Defeat Zhang Ju. Podao – Located in the Subjugation of the White Wave Bandits (Chapter 2). Many officers carry this weapon—defeat any one of them to claim it. Staff – Found in the Assassination of Dong Zhuo (Chapter 2). Search for an officer hidden in a treasure chamber with a secret passage and defeat him. Twin Pike – Acquired at the Battle of Hulao Gate (Chapter 2). Defeat Zhang Liao. Lance – Available during the Battle of Xu Province. Since you can align with Cao Cao or Liu Bei, defeat an opposing officer wielding the Lance to unlock it. Crescent Blade – Unlocks in Chapter 3 after joining a specific faction. With branching missions at this stage, the exact battle may vary, but you will obtain it before finishing the chapter.
A final weapon—the Halberd—can also be unlocked, though obtaining it presents a significant challenge. After completing the main campaign, return to the Battle of Hulao Gate and defeat the mighty Lu Bu. While this battle is extremely difficult, your reward is arguably the game's most powerful weapon.
That covers how to unlock every weapon in Dynasty Warriors: Origins.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins is now available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
