Let's be frank: Mortal Kombat 1 is struggling. Season 3 content appears to be cancelled due to underwhelming sales, and the recently released Pro Kompetition trailer, promoting the game's esports circuit, is underwhelming at best.
The 2025 Pro Kompetition boasts a total prize pool of $255,000. This is a relatively small amount, even within the fighting game community (FGC). Many top players have previously voiced concerns about the low prize money, citing the unsustainable nature of international travel for potentially meager earnings.

This year's competitive scene will likely see a regional split, with North American and European players competing primarily within their respective regions, culminating in a showdown at EVO 2025, considered the premier fighting game tournament.
While there's a concerted effort to generate excitement, and to some degree it's succeeding, the reality behind the hype and the teased in-game image of the T-1000 is less optimistic.
