Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series by letting fans vote on the next official merchandise items. A whopping 100 options are available, with the top two vote-getters slated for production and release within the next two years. The poll is currently only available on the official Japanese website.
While some choices are more conventional, such as anniversary hoodies and pencil cases, many others draw inspiration from the series' famously eccentric history.
Fans can vote on items ranging from the cult leader Munan Suzuki's outfit in Yakuza 0, to the oversized traffic cone used by Majima in Yakuza Kiwami, and even "Puffy Gold Pants." Other options include Majima's sake cup from Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Akiyama's gold watch, Kiryu's fountain pen from Yakuza 6, Kashiwagi's tambourine from Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Kiryu's wrestling mask from Yakuza 3, and Saejima's prison uniform from Yakuza 4.
The studio is already planning at least one release for the anniversary year of 2025: Like a Dragon: Pirate of the Caribbean in Hawaii, launching February 21st. While a second major release is unconfirmed, RGG Studio's history of rapid development (nine games in the last five years, including Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Judgment Remastered, Lost Judgment, Like a Dragon: Ishin, Like a Dragon Gaiden, and Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, plus several other titles) makes it a distinct possibility.
