Yellow Orb Acquired: Essential Guide for Dragon Quest 3 Remake

Feb 02,2025 Author: Caleb

This guide explains how to obtain the elusive Yellow Orb in the Dragon Quest 3 Remake. While the process is relatively simple, finding the starting point can be challenging.

The Yellow Orb is located in Merchantburg, a town initially represented as "???" on the map. Its name is determined by the merchant you hire and leave there. You must establish and develop this village to acquire the orb.

Finding Merchantburg (???)

Merchantburg Location

After obtaining the ship from the King of Portoga (following the Black Pepper quest), Merchantburg's location is revealed in the northeast corner of the map. Sail west from the coast to reach it. Quest markers will help pinpoint its location.

Optimal Timing for Visiting Merchantburg

While orb acquisition order is flexible, visiting Merchantburg early (immediately after getting the ship) is recommended. The town requires significant growth time before yielding the Yellow Orb. Establishing it early allows you to collect other orbs concurrently.

Obtaining the Yellow Orb

Hiring a Merchant

  1. Hire a Merchant: Before going to Merchantburg, hire a new merchant from PALS in Aliahan. Minimize combat en route.

  2. Establish Merchantburg: In Merchantburg's sole building, speak to the old man. Offer your newly hired merchant to establish the town. The merchant will leave your party and the town's name will be set.

Merchantburg's Growth

  1. Merchantburg's Growth Stages: After establishing the town, proceed with obtaining the Purple Orb (Orochi's Lair) and Blue Orb (Gaia's Navel). You'll receive notifications to revisit Merchantburg as it grows through five stages. The final stage involves a cabaret's construction. On your fourth visit, note the merchant's growing unpopularity.

  2. The Yellow Orb's Location: On your fifth and final visit (at night), the merchant will be absent. The townsfolk have revolted, imprisoning him in the house south of his former residence. Speak to the imprisoned merchant; he'll reveal the Yellow Orb's location. Return to his house; the orb will be marked behind the sofa.

The Yellow Orb is typically the second-to-last orb acquired. Other orb locations include: Red Orb (Pirates' Den), Green Orb (Theddon), and Silver Orb (Maw of the Necrogond/Necrogond Shrine).
