在NieR:Automata中死亡会损失自上次存档以来获得的所有经验值，还会丢失当前装备的所有插件芯片。虽然你可以找到更多插件芯片并恢复相同的配置，但有些芯片比较稀有，且投资强大的芯片需要花费大量金钱。重生后，你当前装备的插件槽将清空，你需要重新装备或选择其他预设配置。
死亡丢失的插件芯片并非永久消失，你只有一次机会返回死亡地点回收这些芯片以及可能获得的经验值。如果你在回收尸体前再次死亡，则你最初装备的预设配置中的所有芯片将永久丢失。
死亡后重生，你的首要目标应该是回收你的尸体。地图上会出现一个小的蓝色尸体图标，标记你的尸体位置，你可以选择将其标记在地图上。靠近尸体后，只需与其互动即可找回所有插件芯片，但你还会获得两个选择：
