Application Description

Tichu is a captivating multi-genre shedding game that blends elements of Bridge, Daihinmin, and Poker.

This is a partnership card game for four players, with teammates sitting opposite each other. Partners work together throughout each hand to score points and gain the lead. Play continues over a series of hands until one team reaches a predetermined target score.

The Tichu deck contains 56 cards across four suits: Jade, Swords, Pagodas, and Stars. Each suit has 13 cards ranked from 2 up to Ace (2-10, J, Q, K, A). The deck also includes four special cards: the Dragon, the Phoenix, the Hound, and the Mah Jong.

Each player initially receives eight cards. At this point, a player may declare a "Grand Tichu," a bold 200-point wager that they will be the first to play all their cards. After everyone decides on a Grand Tichu call, six more cards are dealt to each player. Once these cards are received, Grand Tichu can no longer be declared. However, anytime before playing their first card, a player can call a standard "Tichu," a 100-point bet that *they* personally will go out first. The key differences lie in the timing of the call, the number of cards seen, and the point values.

After the full deal of 14 cards per player, the exchange phase begins. Each player must pass one card face-down to each of the other three players. Consequently, every player gives away three cards and receives three new ones in return.

Following the exchange, the player holding the Mah Jong card leads the first trick. They may play any valid combination. Subsequent players must either pass or play a higher-ranking combination of the same type (with the exception of "Bombs," explained later). For example, a single card is beaten only by a higher single card; a sequence of pairs requires a higher sequence of the same number of pairs. The player who plays the highest combination collects the trick and leads the next one. If that player has no cards left, they have "gone out," and the lead passes to the player on their right. A round ends when both members of one team have gone out. If only one player remains with cards, they incur a penalty, surrendering their hand to the opponents' trick pile and their own won tricks to the player who went out first.

The overall game concludes when a team reaches or surpasses the pre-agreed total point goal.
