IO Interactive Unveils Details on Project 007: A Young Bond Trilogy

IO Interactive, renowned for the Hitman series, is developing Project 007, a new James Bond game. This isn't just a single title; CEO Hakan Abrak envisions a trilogy, reimagining Bond for a new generation of gamers. The project, announced in November 2020, focuses on a younger Bond, before he became 007.

Abrak, in an interview with IGN, emphasized the game's "amazing" progress and its unique narrative. This original story, unrelated to any film portrayal, will allow players to "grow with" a Bond they can call their own. He highlighted the studio's two-decade preparation and their expertise in creating immersive, stealth-focused gameplay, though acknowledged the significant shift from their self-created IP to the globally recognized James Bond franchise. Abrak expressed his hope that Project 007 will redefine James Bond in gaming for years to come, creating a lasting universe for players.

The game's official website confirms a wholly original Bond story, charting the agent's journey to 00 status. While details remain scarce, Abrak mentioned to Edge Magazine in 2023 that the tone will lean closer to Daniel Craig's portrayal than Roger Moore's. The gameplay, while still largely under wraps, is hinted to be a more structured experience compared to Hitman's open-ended style, described as "the ultimate spycraft fantasy," suggesting a focus on gadgets and perhaps less emphasis on the outright lethal objectives of Agent 47. Job listings from 2021 suggest a third-person perspective with "sandbox storytelling" and advanced AI, hinting at dynamic mission approaches.

While a release date remains unannounced, Abrak's enthusiasm is palpable, promising further updates soon. The anticipation is high for this ambitious project, poised to potentially become a defining entry in the James Bond gaming legacy.
