11 Bit Studios Compares This War of Mine to The Alters

Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has unveiled a new trailer for their eagerly awaited sci-fi adventure, The Alters, which is inching closer to its release date. In this latest reveal, the studio paused to reminisce about their groundbreaking wartime survival game, This War of Mine, which catapulted them to international acclaim over a decade ago.

While This War of Mine is renowned for its somber and despairing ambiance, The Alters takes a different approach, embracing a more passionate and often humorous storyline that revolves around the trials of alternate versions of protagonist Jan Dolski. Despite these contrasting tones, the developers highlight a deep-rooted connection between the two games.

Though the settings and atmospheres of the games differ greatly, they both center on the theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players face the grim realities of war within a besieged city, meticulously managing resources and overcoming daily challenges to ensure their group's survival. On the other hand, The Alters frames survival as a frantic race against time, compelling players to continuously relocate their mobile base to escape the deadly rays of a sun that turns everything to dust.

Both titles challenge players to step beyond their comfort zones, venturing into dangerous territories in pursuit of vital resources. The primary distinction between the two lies in their protagonists: This War of Mine tasks players with leading a diverse group of civilians, whereas The Alters introduces a unique team made up of different iterations of the main character, Jan Dolski.

Set to launch in 2025, The Alters will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Additionally, it will be accessible on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from day one, offering gamers immediate access to this innovative title.
