Amazon's Android Appstore to Close its Doors
Fans of the Amazon Appstore on Android devices will soon need to find an alternative. TechCrunch reports Amazon is shutting down its Android app store on August 20th, 2024.
While the Appstore, launched in 2011, has had a surprisingly long run, its closure will impact developers and users alike. According to Amazon's support page, apps installed from the store may not receive future updates or support. However, the Appstore will continue to operate on Amazon's Fire TV and Fire Tablets.

The timing is somewhat ironic, coinciding with the rise of alternative app stores. Amazon's Appstore never achieved widespread popularity, failing to compete effectively with established players. This lack of success can be attributed to several factors, including a lack of compelling features, such as the free game programs offered by competitors like the Epic Games Store.
