Recently uncovered screenshots reveal Sony's canceled Twisted Metal project, suggesting developer Firesprite was crafting a live-service title that merged the series' iconic car combat with battle royale elements.
A former Firesprite UI designer shared blurred concept images labeled "Under NDA" in their online portfolio, listing them under Project Copper - widely believed to be the codename for this unreleased Twisted Metal reboot.
Though dormant since PlayStation 3, this classic vehicular combat franchise was being revived as Firesprite's "third-person vehicular action game based on a classic PlayStation IP," blending shooter mechanics with last-man-standing vehicle battles.
Sony axed the project during February 2024 layoffs, when it reportedly hadn't received full production approval despite being in active development at UK-based Firesprite.

The cancellation reflects Sony's strategic retreat from live-service games after initially prioritizing them, following similar terminations including Naughty Dog's Last of Us multiplayer project.
