Elden Ring Multiplayer Issues? FromSoftware Responds

Jan 15,2026 Author: Skylar

FromSoftware has confirmed multiplayer connection problems during Elden Ring Nightreign's launch weekend, providing temporary solutions for affected players.

On May 31st, FromSoftware addressed matchmaking difficulties in its Elden Ring multiplayer expansion via Twitter. The developer recommended restarting matchmaking attempts when failing to find teammates - acknowledging this as a limited fix while confirming awareness of the issue. "We appreciate your patience," the statement concluded.

A follow-up tweet specifically addressed PlayStation connectivity, advising PS4/PS5 users experiencing matchmaking failures to verify their NAT type. "NAT Type 3 configurations may hinder PSN matchmaking," the developer clarified.

To check NAT type on PlayStation consoles: Home > Settings > Network > Connection Status > Check Connection Status

Producer Yasuhiro Kitao recently celebrated Nightreign's commercial success (2 million copies sold in 24 hours) via social media.

"While Nightreign diverges from our recent titles with its unique design approach, we're profoundly grateful for the overwhelming response," Kitao stated.

"Similar to Demon's Souls or Sekiro, initial challenges may seem daunting, but overcoming them delivers uniquely rewarding experiences. Once players adapt to Nightreign's systems, they'll discover its distinctive sense of achievement.

We sincerely hope you enjoy the adventure."

The ongoing criticism? Nightreign maintains "Mixed" Steam reviews primarily due to its punishing solo mode, absence of duo co-op, missing voice chat, and dated design elements. The classic multiplayer struggle - assembling competent three-player teams - remains integral to the Nightreign experience. A forthcoming patch aims to rebalance solo play.

As noted in IGN's Elden Ring Nightreign review: "Crucial disclaimer: Solo players outside the hardcore demographic - those who deliberately seek heightened challenges in Souls games - should reconsider Nightreign. While technically playable alone, its current solo balancing seems destined for rapid updates post-launch. This comes from an avid genre enthusiast."
