New Ghost Recon Game Reaches Alpha Phase: Report

The upcoming mainline Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon game is set to enter internal alpha testing in the coming months.

According to Insider Gaming, the shooter, internally known as 'Over,' will begin alpha testing this Fall (Q3). With testing expected to last approximately 12 months, IG estimated a Fall 2026 release for Ghost Recon.

News of a new Ghost Recon emerged around the time the developer/publisher confirmed it was halting all new development for 2019's Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Reportedly, development at Ubisoft has been ongoing since then, though it was clear the series was undergoing a complete reset, requiring an extended development timeline.

In a statement to IGN, a Ubisoft representative said: "We do not comment on rumors or speculation."

IGN's review of Ghost Recon Breakpoint gave it a 6/10. We noted: "Breakpoint provides initial enjoyment by adhering to Ubisoft's open-world formula, but a lack of variety and conflicting elements leave it without a distinct identity."

Earlier this year, Ubisoft established a subsidiary focused on its Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six brands, backed by a €1.16 billion (approx. $1.25 billion) investment from Chinese conglomerate Tencent.

This announcement followed closely after the launch of Assassin's Creed Shadows, which recently surpassed 3 million players. Ubisoft faced several high-profile failures, layoffs, studio shutdowns, and game cancellations leading up to the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows, placing immense pressure on the company to succeed as its stock price hit a record low.

In 2022, Ubisoft canceled development on Ghost Recon Frontline a year after its announcement. The free-to-play battle royale spin-off, designed for 102 players, never saw release.
