Marvel Comics is set to reboot its Captain America monthly series with a fresh creative team and storyline focusing on Steve Rogers' early days post-thaw. This new series will even depict Cap's very first encounter with Doctor Doom.
As announced at the ComicsPro retailer convention, Chip Zdarsky (Batman, Daredevil) will pen the series, with Valerio Schiti (G.O.D.S., The Avengers) providing illustrations and Frank D'Armata handling colors. This marks a reunion for Zdarsky, Schiti, and D'Armata, who previously collaborated on 2017's Marvel 2-in-One.

The series begins shortly after Steve's rediscovery and reintegration into the modern Marvel Universe. His initial mission, following his re-enlistment in the US Army, involves a collaboration with the Howling Commandos to infiltrate a Latveria recently seized by a young, ambitious Doctor Doom. While the narrative will eventually transition to contemporary Marvel events, this initial arc's impact will resonate throughout Zdarsky and Schiti's ongoing story.
Zdarsky stated, "I've been a huge Captain America fan for years. After writing the seasoned, older Cap in Avengers: Twilight, writing the actual Captain America title feels incredible! We're exploring Cap's early modern era experiences with a surprising twist! I'm thrilled, especially with Valerio and Frank's phenomenal artwork!"
He continued, "My approach mirrors my Daredevil run, focusing on Cap's inner world with a realistic, human perspective. Steve Rogers embodies the best of humanity, and I aim to showcase that on every page."
Schiti shared, "Captain America is one of my all-time favorites. Reuniting with Chip and Frank after Marvel 2-In-One is fantastic, and this story perfectly blends heart, action, and entertainment! Unexpectedly, I found myself focusing more on Steve Rogers, the man, rather than just Captain America."
Schiti added, "Chip's script is so engaging that readers will connect with Steve's inner life. He's the embodiment of truth, justice, and freedom. He fought Nazism, 'died,' and returned to continue his duty. That's immense pressure, especially considering he's in his late twenties in the era we're portraying!"
Captain America #1 launches July 2, 2025.
