Amazon Cancels Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Pre-Orders – What Does This Mean?
Reports surfaced on January 11, 2025, indicating Amazon is canceling pre-orders for the highly anticipated Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Affected customers are receiving emails explaining the cancellation due to "lack of availability," with assurances of full refunds within one to two business days.
While disappointing for some fans who pre-ordered since the game's 2017 announcement, the cancellation doesn't signal the game's demise. It simply means the title is temporarily unavailable for pre-order through Amazon.

A Look Back at Metroid Prime 4's Development
Initially announced at E3 2017, the project initially excluded Retro Studios, the developer behind previous Metroid Prime installments. Two years later, Nintendo revealed a development restart under Retro Studios, citing the initial progress as falling short of expectations.
A gameplay trailer showcased at a June 2024 Nintendo Direct confirmed the game's title, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, and revealed Sylux as the antagonist. The trailer also confirmed a 2025 release window. Nintendo reiterated this release date in an early January 2025 news post.
The Amazon pre-order cancellation, while concerning, doesn't contradict Nintendo's commitment to a 2025 release. The upcoming Switch 2 launch adds another layer of intrigue, leaving the platform for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond's release yet to be definitively confirmed.
