MultiVersus is Shutting Down After Its 5th Season

MultiVersus to Conclude Operations After Season 5

Warner Bros. Games has announced the impending closure of MultiVersus, effective May 30, 2025. The upcoming fifth season will be the game's final content update, as revealed via the official Twitter (X) account and website on January 31, 2025.

Season 5: A Final Farewell (February 4th - May 30th, 2025)

Season 5, running from February 4th to May 30th, 2025, will introduce two new playable characters: Aquaman (DC) and Lola Bunny (Looney Tunes). All Season 5 content will be unlockable through gameplay. Following the season's conclusion, MultiVersus will be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. The reason for the shutdown remains unannounced.

Offline Mode: A Lasting Legacy

Players can continue enjoying MultiVersus offline after May 30th via a local gameplay mode, supporting solo play against AI or multiplayer with up to three friends. To access this, download the latest version between February 4th (9 AM PST) and May 30th (9 AM PDT). The game will automatically create a local save file linked to your online account, preserving all earned and purchased content.

Real-money transactions ceased on January 31st, 2025. Any remaining Gleamium can be used until Season 5 ends.

A Brief History and Community Appreciation

Launched in July 2022 as a free-to-play fighting game, MultiVersus initially gained traction with its 2v2 format. A relaunch in May 2024 introduced new features, including characters, rollback netcode, and a PvE mode. Despite these improvements, challenges like technical issues and player count decline (reportedly 70% decrease in July 2024 for PS4/PS5) ultimately led to this decision.

At the time of shutdown, MultiVersus will boast 35 playable characters. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support.

MultiVersus remains available for download on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC until May 30th, 2025.
