With the wait for The Witcher 4 extending into 2027, fans of Naughty Dog’s newly announced game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, are facing a similar timeline. Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier confirmed on ResetEra that neither title will see the light of day in 2026, setting the earliest release for both games at 2027. This delay sparks curiosity about whether Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will be designed for the PlayStation 5, the upcoming PlayStation 6, or as a cross-gen title.
If Intergalactic opts for a direct release on the PS6, Naughty Dog risks bypassing the PS5 generation entirely for new games. To date, the studio has focused on ports, remasters, and remakes for the PS5, including The Last of Us Part II, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, The Last of Us Part I, and The Last of Us Part II Remastered.

In a candid interview with Alex Garland, writer of the zombie film *28 Days Later*, Druckmann revealed that the game has been in development for four years. Reflecting on the reception of *The Last of Us Part II*, Druckmann humorously remarked on the team's decision to shift focus to a less controversial theme: "Let's do something that people won't care as much about — let's make a game about faith and religion."Set in an alternate historical timeline, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet delves into a significant religion that has evolved over time. Druckmann teased, "This whole religion takes place on this one planet, and then at one point, all communication stops." Players will assume the role of a bounty hunter who crash-lands on this mysterious planet, tasked with unraveling its history to find a way off, a journey devoid of the usual ally companionship.

Given that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is slated for a 2027 release and has been in development for four years, it will have been in the works for six years by launch. While the wait is long, Druckmann's enthusiasm is palpable. Speaking to IGN at the red carpet event for The Last of Us Season 2 premiere, he shared, "I will say we are playing it at the office and it's incredible. It's really good. I'm so excited to finally put gameplay out into the world and show people about it, because we just showed you the very, very, very tip on the iceberg. The game goes pretty deep beyond that."
