Supermassive Games Halts Development on Secret Blade Runner Project

Supermassive Games, renowned for immersive horror titles like Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures series, has apparently shelved an undisclosed Blade Runner game in development.

A Cyberpunk Dream Deferred

Insider Gaming reveals this was no ordinary project - codenamed "Blade Runner: Time To Live," it promised a gritty neo-noir experience set in 2065. Players would have inhabited the role of So-Lange, a vintage Nexus-6 replicant turned Blade Runner tasked with dismantling an underground replicant network. The game reportedly blended investigative gameplay with intense stealth sequences and cinematic storytelling.

The ambitious title allegedly carried a $45 million budget, with $9 million dedicated solely to performance capture featuring Hollywood-caliber talent. Planned as a 10-12 hour narrative experience, development reportedly began in September 2024 targeting a 2027 release across multiple console generations.

Licensing Troubles Ground Future Noir

According to sources, rights holder Alcon Entertainment ultimately pulled the plug last year, leaving this cyberpunk vision trapped in development limbo. This cancellation follows Annapurna Interactive's announcement of Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth - now positioned as the franchise's first interactive return in 25 years.

Supermassive currently maintains multiple active projects including Dark Pictures: Directive 8020 and Little Nightmares 3. The studio underwent restructuring last year, letting go approximately 90 employees according to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier.

While one Blade Runner tale remains untold, fans can still experience Supermassive's signature horror style through Until Dawn's cinematic adaptation hitting theaters soon.
