Lucasfilm has thrilled fans with the announcement of a new addition to the Star Wars saga: Star Wars: Starfighter. Directed by Shawn Levy, renowned for his work on Deadpool & Wolverine, this film will star Ryan Gosling and is set to hit theaters on May 28, 2027. This eagerly anticipated movie takes place five years following the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
The announcement was made at the Star Wars Celebration, where it was also confirmed that production will kick off this fall. While details are still under wraps, we know that Gosling will be portraying a brand-new character, adding to the excitement of what's to come. This news is perfect for fans looking to plan their Memorial Day weekend in 2027 around a cinematic adventure in a galaxy far, far away.
In a touching moment shared at the event, Ryan Gosling revealed that his mother sent him a nostalgic photo of his childhood Star Wars bedsheets upon hearing the news of his casting. This heartwarming gesture underscores Gosling's long-standing love for the franchise.
