Squad Busters marks its first anniversary with the revolutionary Update 2.0 launching May 13th. Despite its 2024 debut, the title hasn't achieved the player adoption Supercell envisioned. This comprehensive overhaul aims to revitalize the experience completely.
This Is More Than Minor Adjustments
Squad Busters 2.0 represents a complete transformation of core gameplay mechanics. From combat systems to victory conditions, every aspect has been reimagined.
The most significant evolution comes through the new Hero system. Players now select a primary Hero from existing characters to lead their squad - lose your Hero, and the battle ends immediately.
Combat mechanics undergo a dramatic shift as well. The update eliminates pause-to-attack mechanics, seamlessly integrating movement and fighting for more fluid, fast-paced engagements.
Victory requirements have been streamlined - instead of eliminating all opponents, players simply need to defeat the enemy Hero. While this change evokes comparisons to Brawl Stars, Supercell emphasizes these are distinct gameplay innovations.
Squad Busters 2.0 Streamlines Game Features
The update removes several legacy modes including Doppelgangers, Double Trouble, Epic Overload, Loot Machines, and Hatchling Herder. Some cosmetic items and progression systems are being retired too, with compensation provided through Hero Points.
Supercell's rapid implementation of these changes reflects Squad Busters' current position below its flagship titles' popularity. With the May 29th anniversary approaching, this update serves as a relaunch opportunity. Special anniversary events will include daily piñata rewards and chances to unlock Mortis as a playable Hero.
