Exciting news for fans of the action-packed game Stellar Blade—developer Shift Up has officially announced that a full sequel is in the works. Launched in April 2024 and published by PlayStation, Stellar Blade received positive feedback, with gamers praising its unique blend of gameplay elements reminiscent of NieR: Automata and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
The confirmation came from a chart showcasing Shift Up's future projects, included in their latest financial results. This chart not only highlighted the upcoming Stellar Blade sequel but also detailed other ambitious plans. According to the presentation, the sequel is slated to be released before 2027, aligning with Shift Up's vision to expand its franchise portfolio.
Prior to the sequel's launch, Stellar Blade is set for a "platform expansion," which most likely refers to its highly anticipated PC version, scheduled to debut on June 11, 2025. In addition to this, Shift Up is gearing up for the release of another intriguing project—Project Witches. This multiplatform action RPG, still shrouded in mystery, is expected to hit the market within the same development window as the Stellar Blade sequel.
Earlier this week, Shift Up addressed a peculiar issue concerning a PC region lock that had temporarily blocked the game's store page on Steam in over 100 countries. The developer is actively engaged in discussions with Sony to resolve this matter.
IGN's review of Stellar Blade commended the game for its stunning visuals and well-crafted action mechanics. However, it also pointed out some shortcomings, notably in the story and character development, as well as certain RPG elements like repetitive sidequests. Despite these flaws, the game's combat system, inspired by Sekiro, was lauded for its solid execution and the engaging challenge posed by its array of formidable enemies. The game also encourages exploration with hidden treasures that add depth to the player's journey.
