Elden Ring DLC Update Enhances Accessibility

FromSoftware has released a balance-tweaking update (1.12.2) for Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, addressing player concerns regarding its difficulty. While lauded by critics, the DLC's challenging nature proved too much for some players, leading to review bombing on Steam.

This update directly tackles the difficulty curve, particularly in the early and late stages. It significantly boosts attack output and damage negation for the first half of Blessing enhancements obtained through Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ashes. The increase is more gradual in the latter half, with a further slight boost at the final enhancement level. This effectively makes the initial encounters and the final boss battles less punishing.

Interestingly, Bandai Namco had to remind players to utilize these Scadutree Fragments, crucial items found throughout the DLC that enhance damage and defense when used at Sites of Grace. The update further amplifies their effectiveness.

The patch also fixes a bug affecting PC players. Loading older save data automatically enabled ray tracing, causing framerate issues. Players experiencing this are advised to manually disable ray tracing in the graphics settings. Future updates are promised, promising further balance adjustments and bug fixes.

Elden Ring Update 1.12.2 Patch Notes Summary:

  • Shadow Realm Blessing Adjustments: Increased attack output and damage negation, especially in the early stages of Blessing enhancements. The final level also receives a minor boost.
  • Ray Tracing Bug Fix (PC): Resolved the issue of automatically enabled ray tracing when loading older saves. Players should manually disable ray tracing if experiencing framerate problems.
  • Future Updates Planned: Further balance changes and bug fixes are in development. The update is applied via multiplayer server login; ensure "Calibration Ver. 1.12.2" is displayed on the title menu.
