Saros: Housemarque's Next Hit After Returnal, Set for 2026

Housemarque, the studio behind the acclaimed 2022 roguelite shooter Returnal, has unveiled its next project titled Saros. Set to launch in 2026 exclusively for PlayStation 5 and enhanced for PS5 Pro, Saros was introduced during today's PlayStation State of Play event. The game features actor Rahul Kohli and promises to continue Housemarque's tradition of high-quality gameplay experiences.
In Saros, players will take on the role of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer on a quest for truth on a treacherous, ever-changing planet plagued by an eclipse and inhabited by formidable entities. The game's atmosphere and the phrase "come back stronger" strongly resonate with the roguelite genre, while the display of fireballs hints at Housemarque's signature bullet-hell style.
Creative director Gregory Louden described Saros as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's gameplay-first approach. Although Saros is a new single-player IP, it builds upon the third-person action mechanics established in Returnal. However, Saros introduces a significant gameplay difference: players can permanently upgrade their weapons and suits, even as the world itself shifts upon death.
More details about Saros are anticipated later this year, with Housemarque planning to reveal an extended gameplay look. For a comprehensive overview of all announcements from today's PlayStation State of Play, don't miss our detailed recap.
