AMC Cuts Ticket Prices Mid-Weed by Half From July

Feb 09,2026 Author: Emily

Wednesday is poised to become every movie lover's favorite day of the week. AMC Theatres has announced it will cut ticket prices in half every Wednesday to attract more audiences during the midweek slowdown. Yes, you heard correctly—by half.

According to a company statement reported by Bloomberg, this all-day discount will be applied to the standard adult evening ticket price and will begin on July 9. Perhaps the most appealing part is that premium formats like IMAX and 4DX will also receive the 50% discount. This is a significant saving, considering the usual high cost of an IMAX ticket for an individual, let alone for a family or group.

Movie theater attendance has been unstable since the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the habit for an extended period, leading to a severe financial impact from lost ticket sales. While recovery has been gradual, the industry continues to face challenges and has not yet fully returned to pre-pandemic levels. Nonetheless, AMC CEO Adam Aron sees an opportunity.

The executive noted that the first quarter did experience low box office turnout, but he described that slump as an "anomaly" that has "already corrected itself," thanks to the massive success of both "A Minecraft Movie" and "Sinners."

He stated that ticket sales have been strong since April 1st. Given the impressive domestic box office performance of these two films, this claim is easy to believe. At the time of writing, "A Minecraft Movie" has earned a staggering $408 million, while "Sinners" has garnered $215 million and counting.

Furthermore, the summer blockbuster season is just getting started. Upcoming releases include "Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning" and Disney's live-action "Lilo & Stitch," followed by the new "Superman" and "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" in July. This lineup promises substantial potential for the box office, and AMC's new discount initiative is likely to help boost attendance numbers.
