Choosing Your Path in Citizen Sleeper 2: A Class Comparison
At the outset of Citizen Sleeper 2, you'll face a crucial decision: selecting your character's class. Operator, Machinist, and Extractor each offer a unique playstyle. This guide will help you decide which best suits your approach.
Which Class is Right for You?
Your ideal class hinges on your preferred gameplay. Based on a completed playthrough, here's a breakdown of each, considering abilities and roleplaying potential.
Operator

The Operator starts with a bonus in Interface, foundational levels in Intuit and Engage, and no Engineer skill. Endure is unlevelable. Their unique ability trades Stress for a re-roll of their lowest die.
While powerful with upgrades, the Operator presents early-game challenges. The Interface skill is valuable, but the re-roll ability isn't always a game-changer. Roleplaying-wise, the Operator offers versatility, fitting various character archetypes.
Machinist

The Machinist begins with a bonus in Engineer, base levels in Interface and Intuit, and lacks Endure. Engage is unlevelable. Their ability allows them to spend Stress for a +2 bonus to their lowest die, also reducing Stress on positive outcomes. These benefits increase as the game progresses.
This was my preferred class. The ability proved invaluable in overcoming difficult situations, particularly given the frequent need for Engineer and Interface checks. The built-in Stress reduction is a significant advantage, mitigating a major gameplay challenge. Roleplaying-wise, this class appeals to those interested in the game's technical and mechanical aspects.
Extractor

The Extractor starts with a bonus in Endure, base levels in Engineer and Engage, and no Interface skill. Intuit is unlevelable. Their ability lets them spend Stress to add +2 to their crew's lowest die, an ability upgradable for greater crew support.
The Extractor's ability is highly effective for managing contract risks. The initial Endure bonus is beneficial, given the game's frequent Endure checks. However, I often found myself with crew members already skilled in Endure and Engage. Roleplaying-wise, this class suits players who prefer a more physically capable and resilient character.
This comprehensive comparison should aid your decision in Citizen Sleeper 2. Choose wisely, and may your dice rolls be ever in your favor!
