If you're looking for adjustable dumbbell sets, Bowflex isn't your only option. PowerBlock offers a compelling alternative at a much more budget-friendly price. Right now, Woot! (owned by Amazon) is running a limited-time sale on the PowerBlock EXP Stage 1 (5 to 50lb) adjustable dumbbell set, slashing the price to just $239.99. That's a massive $149 saving compared to a similar set from Bowflex SelectTechs. If you're looking for heavier weights, PowerBlock has you covered with expansion kits. The Stage 2 kit (50 to 70lb) and Stage 3 kit (70 to 90lb) are both on sale at Woot! for $119.99 each. Amazon Prime members enjoy free shipping, while others will only need to pay a flat rate of $6, which is quite reasonable given the package will weigh over 100 pounds.
Each dumbbell in the PowerBlock EXP Stage 1 set can be adjusted from 10 pounds up to 50 pounds, with increments of 5 pounds easily selected by turning a dial. The compact design means the plates are neatly contained, saving you significant floor space compared to traditional dumbbell racks. Although a stand isn't included, there's one on sale if you need it, but any sturdy surface will suffice if you're watching your budget.
One of the standout features of these PowerBlocks is the ability to expand beyond 50 pounds without needing to purchase a completely new set. The expansion kits allow you to add weight up to 90 pounds, offering great value for money as your fitness journey progresses.
The build quality of these PowerBlock dumbbells is impressive. Having personally used them, I can attest that they match the durability and craftsmanship of Bowflex SelectTech. Most components are metal, not plastic, ensuring longevity. The rubber-coated handles provide a secure grip, and the weight adjustment dial is smooth and user-friendly. Plus, PowerBlock offers a reassuring five-year warranty. If you're still going strong after five years, you deserve a round of applause.
Free weights are an excellent choice for home workouts, especially when space is at a premium. With just a pair of dumbbells, you can perform a vast array of exercises targeting nearly every muscle group in your upper and lower body. Combine these with cardio and bodyweight exercises like pushups, burpees, or squats, and you might find you don't need any additional equipment.
