Developer Announces Major Tweaks to REPO's Overcharge and Difficulty Scaling

May 18,2025 Author: Aaron

REPO's developers at Semiwork are set to enhance the game's challenge and excitement by revamping the Overcharge mechanic and introducing new difficulty scaling features. These changes, inspired by valuable feedback from the game's open beta, promise to enrich the player experience significantly.

REPO Development Updates

Overcharge Overhaul

During the recent open beta, Semiwork took note of player feedback on the Overcharge mechanic, which allows players to counter enemies by throwing them onto hard surfaces or away from their team. This mechanic now comes with a twist: an overcharge meter that, when filled, causes the player to explode. Initially available from the start, Overcharge will now be introduced at level 10, marking the beginning of a series of difficulty-increasing mechanics.

Every 10 levels, starting at level 20, players will encounter new challenges designed to ramp up the game's difficulty. Semiwork assures that these mechanics will be deeply integrated with the game’s lore, promising a cohesive and engaging narrative experience. "So this system will be also tied to lore. It won’t be just a gimmick for no reason. There will be something attached to this and we will share more details in the future," stated a representative from Semiwork.

In a unique approach to gather firsthand feedback, Semiwork developers, including Pontus Sundstrom, participated incognito in random matches during the open beta. "And I've also actually played with a lot of you guys - incognito, in secret, through the random matchmaking in the servers," Sundstrom revealed. He further noted, "And I've been asking some questions and finding out what you guys find fun, stuff like that."

This direct interaction with the community has been invaluable for Semiwork, who are committed to using this feedback to refine REPO. As the game continues to evolve, players can anticipate more exciting updates. Semiwork has promised to keep the community informed, ensuring that players stay up-to-date with the latest developments in R.E.P.O.
