How Long Is Monster Hunter Wilds?

Apr 23,2025 Author: Mia

The much-anticipated *Monster Hunter Wilds* has arrived on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, continuing the legacy of the iconic action series from Capcom. Following the success of *Monster Hunter World* and its expansive *Iceborne* addition, *Wilds* sets a new stage for hunters to explore. But just how long will it take to conquer this new frontier? Here, we delve into the experiences of the IGN team, detailing their journey through the main story, their priorities, and their adventures in the post-game world.

Tom Marks - Executive Reviews Editor, Games

My journey through the *Monster Hunter Wilds* campaign took just under **15 hours** to reach the credits, marking the true end of the story, unlike *Monster Hunter Rise* where the first credit roll is merely the midpoint. However, reaching the credits signifies only the completion of Low Rank. High Rank awaits with numerous side quests and tougher challenges, ensuring your adventure is far from over.

I dedicated **another 15 hours** to wrapping up nearly all the quests in High Rank, reaching what could be considered the true endgame. This included battling every monster available at launch, unlocking all crafting systems, and diving into the custom Artian weapon system designed to keep players engaged. Thanks to *Wilds'* streamlined grind, I needed just five more hours to optimize the weapons and armor set I aimed for, though the game offers much more to explore across different weapon types.

Casey DeFreitas - Deputy Editor, Guides

I completed the final "story" mission in High Rank after around **40 hours**, roughly **22 hours after the credits rolled for Low Rank**. Tracking exact time is tricky due to time spent idling in menus for guide creation. During the Low Rank phase, I didn't delve deeply into the game's intricate systems, focusing instead on crafting what was immediately available and pushing forward without repeating hunts. In High Rank, while I mostly followed the story, I did venture off to hunt new optional monsters and join friends for hunts, which is necessary to unlock further Story Missions.

I only specifically upgraded my weapon once, hunting an extra Ajarakan, before rushing to the end. Ideally, with more time, I'd have spent closer to **60 hours** to craft a more efficient set. Post-game, I'm still eager to catch endemic life, fish, and complete six monster-hunting Side Missions I unlocked near the end. There's at least one more optional quest to unlock, and I plan to farm specific monsters for Talisman upgrades, experiment with new armor, and test my luck with RNG for Artian weapons. Plus, I look forward to leisurely replaying the story with friends and trying out different weapons, not to mention the upcoming event quests and title updates with new monsters throughout the year.

Simon Cardy - Senior Editorial Producer

I completed *Monster Hunter Wilds'* main story in **just under 16 hours**, a quicker journey than my 25-hour venture into *World* without reaching the end. As a relative newcomer to the series, I found the battles surprisingly approachable, with only occasional faints against the apex predators. The game's streamlined approach, lessening the focus on elemental strengths, crafting specific loadouts, and extensive tracking, caters well to newcomers but may feel less intense for veteran hunters.

The game's pacing, with a consistent mix of story cutscenes and monster battles, felt less like traditional *Monster Hunter* at times, leaning more towards Western cinematic storytelling. While this made for a swift and enjoyable narrative conclusion, I wonder if it sacrifices some of the series' core elements that fans cherish, which are more fully realized in the post-game.

Jada Griffin - Community Lead

It took me about **20 hours** to reach the initial credits in *Monster Hunter Wilds*, with most of that time spent on optional and side quests, alongside leisurely exploration of the game's world. I took time to discover hidden paths, hunt endemic life, customize my gameplay experience, and find the best spots for pop-up camps.

Completing all High Rank missions and side quests took **15 hours**, introducing me to all post-credit monsters. Since then, I've logged nearly **70 hours** in the post-game, enjoying casual hunts with friends, farming for decorations, and chasing monster crowns. The game has been a delight, and I eagerly await future updates that will bring more monsters to the roster.

Ronny Barrier - Producer, Guides

I hit the first credits in *Monster Hunter Wilds* after about **20 hours**, focusing primarily on the main storyline but taking brief detours to craft appealing armor sets and experiment with various weapons, particularly the Switch Axe. My total playtime now stands at **65 hours**, and I don't consider the credits to be the true end, more of a turning point. The story feels like an extended tutorial, setting the stage for more hunting, new monsters, and unique crafting opportunities. While I'm excited about what's ahead, I could do without encountering Congalala again.
