Bloodborne Marks 10 Years as Fans Demand Revival
Oct 24,2025Author: Andrew
Bloodborne celebrates its 10th anniversary today, with fans marking the occasion by organizing another "Return to Yharnam" community event.
FromSoftware's PS4 masterpiece launched on March 24, 2015, solidifying the Japanese developer's reputation as one of the industry's finest. The game received widespread critical praise and commercial success, making a Dark Souls-style sequel seem inevitable.
Yet nothing materialized. Why hasn't Sony pursued a current-gen remaster, full sequel, or even a next-gen update enabling official 60fps gameplay? Fan demands for more Bloodborne content have gone unanswered, making Sony's silence one of gaming's most perplexing business mysteries.
Earlier this year, former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida offered his personal perspective. In an interview with Kinda Funny Games, Yoshida clarified his comments represented personal speculation rather than insider knowledge about Sony's current plans.
"Bloodborne remains our most requested title," Yoshida noted. "People wonder why we haven't released even a simple update or remaster. Given Sony's history with remasters, this frustration is understandable."
"My personal theory—and I must stress this isn't based on insider information—is that Miyazaki-san remains deeply attached to Bloodborne as his creative vision. While interested, his current success and workload prevent personal involvement, yet he might prefer others not handle it either. The PlayStation team likely respects this preference. Again, this is purely speculative."
Hidetaka Miyazaki, FromSoftware's president, has achieved remarkable success beyond the influential Dark Souls series—most recently with the blockbuster Elden Ring, which elevated the studio's profile and is receiving a multiplayer spin-off this year.

Miyazaki's packed schedule includes overseeing multiple projects and leading his company. After Bloodborne's 2015 release, he directed Dark Souls 3, 2019's Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and finally Elden Ring. His next project remains unannounced.
When asked about Bloodborne, Miyazaki typically notes FromSoftware doesn't own the IP. However, in February 2023, he acknowledged potential benefits from a modern hardware release.
Modders have attempted bridging this gap by enhancing the original PS4 experience. Sony, however, has actively opposed such efforts. In January, prominent modder Lance McDonald received a DMCA takedown notice for his 60fps patch—issued four years after its initial release.
Just weeks later, Lilith Walther, creator of Nightmare Kart (originally Bloodborne Kart) and the Bloodborne PSX demake, reported copyright claims against her demake footage.
Recent advances in PS4 emulation have brought PC players closer to a remastered experience. Digital Foundry documented "a breakthrough in PS4 emulation" via ShadPS4, making 60fps Bloodborne gameplay possible from start to finish. Sony hasn't commented on whether this development prompted their stricter enforcement.
With official channels remaining silent, fans continue organizing Return to Yharnam events. Today's anniversary celebration encourages players to create new characters, engage in multiplayer interactions, and leave commemorative messages.
For Bloodborne enthusiasts, these community-led initiatives may represent the only way forward to keep Yharnam alive.
